Automated backup of storage drives

info

Automated daily backup is available for paid accounts. To upgrade your account, contact customer support.

To reduce the risk of unintentionally losing important files, optionally, drives can be automatically backed up each day, with old versions of files retained for seven days.

Enabling backup

info

To help customers manage their costs, backup is disabled by default. Optionally, customers can enable backup for additional costs.

When you create a drive, you can enable backup by toggling the backup option.

To enable backup for an existing drive, navigate to the drive, click its actions menu, select the "Edit" option, toggle the backup option in the configuration wizard, and finally click the "Save changes" button.

Disabling backup

To disable backup for an existing drive, navigate to the drive, click its actions menu, select the "Edit" option, toggle the backup option in the configuration wizard, and finally click the "Save changes" button.

Restoring backups

To restore a backup, submit a backup restoration support request. In your request, provide the ID of the drive, the paths, and the date that you would like to restore. Please also indicate whether the file system should be overwritten or whether the paths should be restored to /backups/{date} within the drive.

Cost

Backups are charged for the cumulative incremental amount of storage for the backup duration at the same rate as the that of the drive.

For example, backup for two weeks for a 2 TB drive which is 50% full, 10% of which is modified each day will be charged for 14 days × 1.6 TB. In AWS Oregon, the charges for backup for an object drive would total approximately $15.

In addition to automated backup, we recommend that users save important files to the data hub. The data hub is a reliable and cost effective option for data storage.
