Stopping, starting and terminating workstations
Stopping a workstation
Stopping a running workstation is similar to turning off a desktop PC or laptop -- its processes are stopped and its local storage is maintained. To stop a workstation, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the workstation overview page.
- Locate the workstation that you would like to stop.
- Click the actions (three dots) menu for the workstation and click the "Stop" option. This will open a dialog box that will ask you to confirm that you would like to stop the workstation.
- Click the "Stop" button in the dialog box.
- Your workstation will be stopped within a few seconds.
While a workstation is stopped, you will only be charged for its persistent local storage.
Restarting a workstation
Restarting a stopped workstation is similar to powering on a desktop PC or laptop. To start a workstation, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the workstation overview page.
- Locate the workstation that you would like to restart.
- Click the actions (three dots) menu for the workstation, and click the "Start" option.
- Your workstation will be available within a few minutes.
While a workstation is running, you will be charged for its processing, memory, and local storage.
Terminating a workstation
Before terminating a workstation, we recommend backing up all data to a storage drive. Terminating a workstation will permanently delete all local data. In the event of an accidental termination, the Deep Origin team will not be able to help you recover these files.
Terminating a workstation is similar to discarding a desktop PC or laptop -- the local data will be destroyed, and the workstation will no longer be available. Follow the steps below to terminate a workstation:
- Navigate to the workstation overview page.
- Locate the workstation that you would like to terminate.
- Click the actions (three dots) menu for the workstation, and click the "Terminate" option. This will open a dialog box that will ask you to confirm that you would like to terminate the workstation.
- Follow the instructions for the dialog box by entering the ID of the workstation and clicking the "Terminate" button in the dialog box.
- Your workstation will be terminated within a few seconds.
Once your workstation has terminated, you will no longer be charged for its processing, memory, or local storage.
